I think the proper sentence should be: A kangaroo needs its tail for balance. A kangaroo uses its outstretched tail for balance, pushing off on its hind legs and feet, sailing up to 25 feet through the air, and pushing forward with the hind legs onto the forelegs as the tail braces.
