I am profoundly enlightened by Prof. Huntington’s thesis. He believed that in a plural society, disagreement is inevitable. The key lies in the right attitude towards dealing with different views, so as to ensure that they play a constructive rather than destructive role. He also said that in a plural society, we have to attach importance to interpersonal relationship, lay emphasis on cooperation, and consider problems from the standpoints of others. If some groups regard themselves as superior and show little respect for other races or religions, then the entire community could end up paralyzed. I believe that, if we put the above thoughts into practice, it is likely to create a new type of civilization.
