Unpleasant words were a necessity during heightenning the sense of discipline; using force, if necessary, was the way to enhance authority; and meeting at night, an important form of strengthening collective spirit. Feng Youle feared Lang Guozhong, the head of Tudimiao production team, but still exposed his faults in an ironical way at the meeting place. They were often in quarrels, even on the verge of blows, not over personal interests but over agricultural production and lives of commune members. 2 燕子飞时 In Wan Village, the cadres at different levels all had their faults, some more, some less. But first and foremost, they all meant to serve the people. Offensive languages were for the need of reinforcing disciplines; the use of force when necessary was a means to fortify authority; evening meetings were important to strengthen the sense of group. Feng YouLe was intimidated by Lang GuoZhong, leader of the production team at the Land Temple, yet he would draw attention to Lang during the meetings. There were a lot of quarrels between these two, sometimes almost leading to a physical fight. The causes of the disputes, however, were not about conflict of personal interests. Blaspheming is to emphasize the regulation, beating when necessary is to improve the authority, and night-meeting is to cultivate collectivism. Feng youle is afraid of the team leader of producing at the Land Temple, Lang Guozhong, very badly, but exactly choose him to blame at meetings.
