decide和determine都作“决定”解，但是determine 比decide 的语气更强，具有“决心做某事”的含义。例如： He determined to learn Greek. 他决定学希腊语。 He determined to get there first. 他决定先到那里去。 be determined to do也能表示大致相同的意义（语气比decide强，而且表示心理状态）。例如： I was determined not to follow their advice. 我决定不听他们的劝告。 We are determined to defend our motherland at all costs. 我们决心不惜任何牺牲保卫祖国。 此外，determine还有“确定；测定；规定”等含义。这是decide所没有的。例如： determine the cause of the accident 确定事故的原因 Content determines form. 内容决定形式。 至于说*on，此处介词是因为后面的名词而定的，所以在此不做讨论。
